Prof. Daniel Keszthelyi, MD PhD RFF

Consultant Gastroenterologist, Professor of Gastroenterology & Department Head of Gastroenterology-Hepatology, Maastricht University Medical Center. Daniel Keszthelyi completed his undergraduate studies in Medicine at the University of Münster, Germany and at the University of Pécs, in his native Hungary. He subsequently obtained a PhD at Maastricht University, the Netherlands. He was trained to become a gastroenterologist at Maastricht University Medical Center and the Royal London Hospital, UK. He was also honorary research fellow at the Wingate Institute of Neurogastroenterology and the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, King's College University, London, UK. After completing his specialty training, has been serving as a staff gastroenterologist at the Maastricht University Medical Center, where he was appointed head of the Department of Gastroenterology-Hepatology (2021) and Full Professor of Gastroenterology (2022). Dr. Keszthelyi is recipient of the United European Gastroenterology Rising Star Award (2021), the Rome Foundation International Research Award (2021) and the ERC Starting Grant (2022). As of May 2025, he is also a Fellow of the Rome Foundation. He has previously served as Associate Editor of the United European Gastroenterology Journal (UEGJ). As of January 2026, he is Editor-in-Chief of the journal Neurogastroenterology and Motility.
Konrad Lehr

Dr. Konrad Lehr is a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute for University Teaching and Research, Medical Campus Upper Franconia in Bayreuth. He studied Biosystems Engineering at the University of Magdeburg from 2013 to 2019. From 2020 to 2026, he pursued his PhD under the supervision of Prof. Alexander Link at the University Clinic for Gastroenterology in Magdeburg. His research focused on exploring the microbiome and mycobiome in healthy and diseased states of the gastrointestinal tract.
