Anjela Galan, MD, is Associate Professor of Dermatology and Pathology at Yale School of Medicine and Director of the Dermatopathology Fellowship and Training Program. She specializes in dermatopathology within the Department of Dermatology and also practices surgical pathology at Yale New Haven Hospital and the Veterans Affairs Hospital in West Haven, Connecticut. Her diagnostic expertise includes both neoplastic and inflammatory skin disorders, using established as well as advanced pathologic techniques.
Dr. Galan received her medical degree from the N. Testemitanu Kishinev State Medical Institute in the former USSR. She subsequently completed a residency in pathology at Baystate Medical Center/Tufts University School of Medicine, followed by fellowships in oncologic surgical pathology and dermatopathology at Yale School of Medicine.
She is an integral member of the Yale Cancer Center Melanoma Program, where she collaborates closely with a multidisciplinary team that includes dermatologists, medical oncologists, surgical oncologists, radiation oncologists, and basic science researchers in the care of patients with melanoma and other skin cancers. She also serves as a panel member for the National Comprehensive Cancer Network guidelines for melanoma.
A highly accomplished academic physician, Dr. Galan has authored numerous publications and has been actively involved in professional dermatopathology societies, including serving as Past President of the International Society of Dermatopathology.
Her research interests include melanocytic and non-melanocytic neoplasms, as well as infectious and granulomatous disorders. She is dedicated to the practice of highly specialized dermatopathology, to staying at the forefront of advances in the field, and to improving patient care. Her guiding principle is simple: “Always do your best and treat every patient the way you would like to be treated.”
