Dr. Doina Ivan is a tenured Professor of Pathology and Dermatology at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. She serves as Director of the Dermatopathology Fellowship and Chair of the Education and Training Committee in the Division of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. Dr. Ivan received her medical degree from the University of Medicine Carol Davila in Bucharest, Romania, and completed her AP/CP Pathology residency at the University of Texas, Houston, where she received the Helen Chu Wagner Excellence Award for Best Resident in Pathology. She then completed Surgical Pathology and Dermatopathology Fellowships at MD Anderson Cancer Center and, in 2006, joined the faculty in the Dermatopathology department.

Dr. Ivan is a passionate teacher and has been an active educator throughout her career, receiving numerous teaching and mentorship awards. She is the recipient of the 2018 GME Outstanding Program Director Award, the President's Award for Excellence in Education and Mentorship in 2017 and 2019, and Graduate Medical Education’s Emil J Freireich Award for Excellence in Education in 2022. She was recently inducted into the MD Anderson Academy of Health Science Education, the institutional “Hall of Fame” for educators.

Dr. Ivan is an active member of the American Society of Dermatopathology (ASDP), where she has held various leadership roles and currently serves on the Board of Directors as member-at-large elect. She is also a member of the Executive Committee of the International Society of Dermatopathology (ISDP).

Dr. Ivan was invited to present numerous courses and seminars at national and international meetings and academic institutions. She has directed, presented, and chaired numerous sessions at meetings of the American Society of Dermatopathology (ASDP), the International Society of Dermatopathology (ISDP), the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP), the College of American Pathologists (CAP), and the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).

Dr. Ivan’s clinical and research interests include cutaneous adnexal tumors, cutaneous lymphomas, and melanocytic lesions. She has authored or co-authored numerous publications and book chapters, particularly on cutaneous adnexal neoplasms, and serves as a consultant on these rare and unusual tumors.

Dr. Doina Ivan este Profesor titular de Anatomie Patologică și Dermatologie la MD Anderson Cancer Center din Houston, Texas. Ea ocupă funcția de Director al programului de fellowship în dermatopatologie și Președinte al Comitetului de Educație și Formare din cadrul Diviziei de Anatomie Patologică și Medicină de Laborator. Dr. Ivan a absolvit Facultatea de Medicină la Universitatea de Medicină „Carol Davila” din București, România, și a finalizat rezidențiatul în Anatomie Patologică (AP/CP) la Universitatea din Texas, Houston, unde a primit premiul Helen Chu Wagner pentru excelență, acordat celui mai bun rezident în anatomie patologică. Ulterior, a efectuat fellowship-uri în Anatomie Patologică Chirurgicală și Dermatopatologie la MD Anderson Cancer Center, iar în 2006 s-a alăturat corpului profesoral al departamentului de dermatopatologie.

Dr. Ivan este un cadru didactic pasionat și a fost un educator activ pe tot parcursul carierei sale, primind numeroase premii pentru activitatea didactică și mentorat. Este laureată a premiului GME Outstanding Program Director (2018), a premiului President’s Award for Excellence in Education and Mentorship (2017 și 2019) și a premiului Emil J. Freireich pentru excelență în educație, acordat de Graduate Medical Education în 2022. Recent, a fost inclusă în MD Anderson Academy of Health Science Education, „Hall of Fame”-ul instituțional dedicat educatorilor.

Dr. Ivan este membru activ al American Society of Dermatopathology (ASDP), unde a deținut diverse roluri de conducere și în prezent face parte din Consiliul Director în calitate de membru ales (member-at-large elect). Interesele clinice și de cercetare ale Dr. Ivan includ tumorile anexiale cutanate, limfoamele cutanate și leziunile melanocitare. Este autoare sau coautoare a numeroase publicații și capitole de carte, în special în domeniul neoplaziilor anexiale cutanate, și activează ca expert consultant pentru aceste tumori rare și neobișnuite.
