Vania Nosé, MD, PhD is a Professor of Pathology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, USA. She is the Director of the Endocrine Pathology Service and an Associate Director of Anatomic Pathology.  

Dr. Nosé is a surgical pathologist with subspecialty expertise in endocrine pathology, including thyroid pathology, thyroid tumors as well as other endocrine organs, endocrine tumor syndromes, and familial cancer syndromes. Since the 1990s she served as a consultant for difficult or challenging endocrine pathology and thyroid pathology cases for pathologists locally, regionally, and internationally, and have also actively served as a resource for clinicians. She served as Program Director of Massachusetts General Hospital’s Surgical Pathology Fellowship Program for over 10 years, until 2025.

She has been involved in teaching of pathology residents, surgical pathology fellows, and endocrinology fellows as well as in translational research training of post-doctoral research fellows, postgraduate-students, and physicians working on their PhD thesis.

Her major research interest is in endocrine pathology, primarily thyroid pathology, also including parathyroid, pituitary, adrenal, paraganglia, and neuroendocrine tumors of the gastrointestinal tract. She is working on the mechanisms underlying tumor development and progression in endocrine organs and tissues. Her areas of interest include the genetic predispositions that underlie many of these neoplasms, and familial/genetic tumor syndromes.

Dr. Nosé is the editor of the Familial Cancer Syndromes at the World Health Organization "WHO Classification of Tumors: Endocrine and Neuroendocrine tumors” and World Health Organization "WHO Classification of Tumors Head and Neck Tumors”. She also has collaborated with numerous chapters on the World Health Organization "WHO Classification of Tumors of Endocrine Organs".

Dr. Nosé has authored six comprehensive textbooks, three titled “Diagnostic Pathology: Endocrine” and three pathology textbooks titled “Diagnostic Pathology: Familial Cancer Syndromes,” and is also a Co-Author of the three editions of “Diagnostic Pathology: Intraoperative Consultation”.

Principalul său domeniu de interes științific este patologia endocrină, în special patologia tiroidiană, incluzând de asemenea patologia paratiroidiană, hipofizară, suprarenaliană, paraganglionară și tumorile neuroendocrine ale tractului gastrointestinal. Cercetările sale vizează mecanismele implicate în dezvoltarea și progresia tumorilor în organele și țesuturile endocrine. Ariile sale de interes includ predispozițiile genetice care stau la baza multora dintre aceste neoplazii, precum și sindroamele tumorale familiale/genetice.

Dr. Nosé este editor al secțiunii dedicate sindroamelor neoplazice familiale din cadrul clasificărilor Organizației Mondiale a Sănătății „WHO Classification of Tumors: Endocrine and Neuroendocrine Tumors” și „WHO Classification of Tumors: Head and Neck Tumors”. De asemenea, a colaborat la numeroase capitole din cadrul „WHO Classification of Tumors of Endocrine Organs”.

Dr. Nosé este autoarea a șase tratate de specialitate – trei volume intitulate „Diagnostic Pathology: Endocrine” și trei volume „Diagnostic Pathology: Familial Cancer Syndromes” – și coautoare a celor trei ediții ale lucrării „Diagnostic Pathology: Intraoperative Consultation”.
